Saudades is a Portuguese word that people say is difficult to translate. It's like "longing" and at the same time remembering fondly. That's what I'm feeling these past few days. A couple of days ago I was showing some photographs of hats to a relative, and as I went through each photo I remembered each hat with the fondness one reserves for old friends.

It's been more than three months since I've been able to get into the studio. Having a daughter seems to be the greatest joy of my life, but I do miss all that silly little headwear that I was making. Hopefully I'll get back to work soon. Once I can figure out my daughter's sleep schedule I'm sure it will get a lot easier.

I leave you with a few of the pictures that had me paining for my needles and thread.

I know just how you feel. I am a milliner and have three little boys - 6, 3 and 6 months. They are a constant joy and distraction and a complete pain in the bum too sometimes. I am managing to juggle the boys and the hats but its hard sometimes. And time goes by too fast! I sew in the evenings when they are in bed, in front of the TV with my husband and in the two hours that the middle one is on nursery and the baby is asleep. Its tricky but its worth it as I'm sure you can appreciate. I love your hats, hope you get back to them soon.

Longing is part of the creative process, don't you think?

The hats will come, but babies don't stay babies for long. Enjoy knowing you know the difference between that which will soon be extinct (you will never have this particular child at this age age again) and that which will always be there in the future (creative vision/time/energy/resources)

Being a mom WILL make you a better future milliner too!
